Permanent Laser Hair Removal
Smooth Laser Clinic’s original and most popular treatment, Permanent Laser Hair Removal. We use the Lumenis LightSheer technology which offers superior results, maximal safety and comfort and has long been internationally recognized as the “Gold Standard” for laser hair removal. The Lightsheer ET is NOT IPL – it is a LASER designed for the purpose of reducing hair permanently.
Permanent Laser Hair Removal is an excellent choice of treatment if you are looking for a better solution to constantly shaving, waxing, plucking or threading as it offers a long term and often permanent answer by significantly reducing and removing unwanted hair from almost anywhere on the body. The darker, thicker and coarser your problem hair, the better the results you will get from the Laser. You will no longer have the discomfort of all your problem hair feeling coarser on regrowth after shaving nor the inconvenience of growing the hair between wax sessions! Throw away your razor for good!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ABOUT LASER HAIR REMOVAL
How does Laser Hair Removal work?
The laser works specifically to attack hair follicles by travelling through the pigment in the hair, down to the root, where the energy is absorbed by follicle and during this process the follicle gets destroyed. It will therefore stop producing hair.
Which Laser System does Smooth Laser Clinic Use and Why?
We use the Lumenis Lightsheer Diode System which was considered the Gold Standard for laser hair removal. The system has a unique, patented contact-cooling hand piece, the ChillTipTM, which helps protect the skin and makes the treatment more comfortable for you. The LightSheer diode laser system safely and effectively treats all skin types.
Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?
Yes, it can be. Hairs have 3 distinct growth phases and only hair in the active growth phase can be disabled. There will always be regrowth of hair from the other phases. Most people will see at least an 80% reduction in hairs. Those hairs that do grow will be much finer and lighter after a few treatments. On average 6-8 treatments are needed for 80-90% reduction of hair.
Who Is The Best Candidate For Laser Hair Removal?
The LightSheer diode laser system safely and effectively treats all skin types (Fitzpatrick Skin Types I-VI). Dark hairs contain the most pigmentation which allows the laser light to be absorbed to a greater extent. Therefore a candidate with a light skin tone and dark hair will experience the best results.
Who is NOT suitable for Laser Hair Removal?
White or grey hair contains no pigmentation and therefore do not absorb the laser light enough to heat the hair follicle. So it may not be suitable to treat these hairs. However, some red or blond hairs may respond well if they contain some melanin – a test patch would need to be done to determine the effect.
• Tanned Skin – Having even the slightest tan can make it harder for the laser light to pass through your skin in order to heat the hair follicle. It is advised not to be in the direct sun exposure 6 weeks before and 6 week after the intended treatment
• Skin Conditions – Active bacterial or viral infection, a history of hypertrophic scarring or keloid formation, psoriasis or vitiligo
• Pregnant woman – This is due to fluctuating hormone levels. It is advisable to wait until your hair growth cycle stabilises.
• Patients with pacemakers or internal defibrillators.
• Patients who take Accutane must have stopped 6 months before treatment.
I have PCOS – will Laser Work for me?
LightSheer Diode laser technology provides lots of benefits to the patients with the PCOS in terms of keeping the unwanted hair growth under control but there would be no guarantee of a permanent reduction in hair. Discounted treatments are available for PCOS clients.
How many Sessions would I need?
The follicles with hairs in a growing stage at the time of your permanent laser hair removal treatment, will be permanently destroyed. The laser can permanently destroy follicles with hair in the ‘growing stage’. As the hairs grows in cycles, it will be required to wait a few weeks till the hair of “dormant” follicles to come into the growing phase. This is why a few laser hair removal sessions will be required. On average 6-8 treatments are needed for 80-90% reduction of hair
How far Apart will the Sessions be?
Laser hair removal sessions are spaced from 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the area of the body treated. After each session, the gaps will be longer with no or very few hairs growing
How long do treatments take?
This varies depending on the area being treated. It could be as quick as 5 minutes (for an upper lip) to 1.5 hours (for two full legs)
Is there any downtime?
There is no downtime involved; patients can return to normal activities immediately
Can I still remove hair between treatments?
Yes, you can shave or trim hair. However, you shouldn’t pluck, use depilatory creams, or wax as these remove hair from within the follicle.
Does it Hurt?
Most patients experience a little discomfort. Some patients may feel heat or a slight stinging sensation similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin. The laser system has a unique, patented contact-cooling hand piece, the ChillTip, which chills the skin for maximum comfort.
What Would I Need To Do To Prepare For My Treatment
If you have recently waxed or tweezed, you will be asked to wait till your hair grows back. You will clean-shave the area the day before of your treatment unless instructed otherwise by your therapist who may wish to observe your hair regrowth.
What will I experience after the treatment?
Most patients experience redness and sunburn sensation after the treatments which goes away in a few hours. You need to avoid the sun and sunbeds for 4-6 weeks before and during treatment and use a sunscreen of SPF25 or higher.
When will I See the Result of My Treatment?
You will see the effect immediately. It takes anything between 5 to 10 days for the dead hairs in the treated area to fall out. This period is called shedding. After that, you will experience several weeks of no growth in the treated area.
Does it work for Men?
